Another one I've followed from the beginning.

LIVINGSTON — While a jury was still deliberating, Couty Alexander entered three guilty pleas Friday evening and agreed to a 55-year prison sentence for killing his wife.

He pleaded guilty to manslaughter of Christa Baker Alexander, feticide for the death of the couple’s unborn child, and obstruction of justice.

The jury had been out for more than six hours considering a second-degree murder charge against Couty Alexander when he entered the pleas before District Judge Zoey Waguespack in 21st Judicial District Court.

Couty said he didn't realize the gun was loaded. Because it's always fun to stand behind your new wife and hold a gun to the back of her head. That "click" always made ME jump!

Thanks for the update. I too followed this one from the beginning. Why did he have to waste everyone's time and money if he was just going to plead guilty? He should have gotten the death penalty though. Asshole.

I'll need to do some research, but my impression is that he entered the guilty plea because he was afraid of what would happen with the jury.

55 years doesn't seem like much for killing his wife and unborn child. Didn't Scott Peterson get life for that?

It was part of a plea deal, Banned. Jury had been deliberating for several hours, and there was a chance of a hung jury. The victim's family agreed to the plea deal when it looked like that might happen.

After making this thread, I dreamed about this case last night. I dreamed I was at an older couple's home and discovered that the woman had written a novel based on this case. In her novel, Couty is sentenced to 55 years but doesn't immediately go to prison, so the protagonist of the book/me (you know how dreams are) is in a parking lot with him, and Couty makes this pathetic "I didn't mean to shoot her" statement, to which the protagonist/me replied with a line from a Stephen King novel that goes something like, "Shot your wife, good fuckin' deal."

Couty then falls into a rage and swears to kill me, and a car chase ensues. I am driving an ambulance 100 mph to try to get away from Couty, but I have a terrible wreck. I have the strange and horrible realization that because Couty is an EMT (he was, btw) I have to let him save my life.

The End.

(Not sure if he saved my life or not. I may be dead.)

It just clicked! This is the Christian man who was a paramedic and living it up when no one was looking. His entire story was unbelievable!

I remember reading the story and loosely following the thread. People were angry about Christa's murder and even angrier about Christianity in general.
